Facilities...

The Trust will consider Applications from any group wishing to use the facilities.

The building is carpeted throughout with the exception of the entrance porch, three bedrooms, kitchen and shower areas.

It is double glazed and has full gas-fired central heating.

 


Our facilities at Gelliwig....

  • There are smoke and fire detectors included in a fire alarm system.
     
  • An intruder alarm system is fitted which provides extra security.
     
  • The building is ramped at the front and rear for access by wheelchair users.
     
  • Switches on the ground floor are at wheelchair height. Please familiarise yourself with the alarms.
     
  • Burnt toast has activated the fire alarm; it is therefore useful to know how to turn this off!!  Instruction manuals for equipment are kept in the warden's office.
     
  • You will have been given the code for the intruder alarm separately. It may be changed from time to time

Accommodation inside the building......

Gelliwig has accommodation for a maximum of 30 people with flexible groupings as follows:

Bedroom 1 :

Bunk beds for 6 people

Bedroom 2 :

Bunk beds for 8 people

Bedroom 3 :

Three single divan beds which includes miras shower in cabinet table lamp, Bedside table, clock radio

Bedroom 4 :

Two single divan beds miras shower in cabinet bedside table, wardrobe, chest of drawers

Bedroom 5 :

Bunk bed for two people 1 single  variable contour electrically operated bed one single formright plus variable contour manually operated bed

Bedroom 6 :

Bunk beds for eight people

All the bunk beds except two are standard 3ft 3ins by 6ft (2metres by 1 metre). They are fitted with waterproof mattress covers and a cover sheet, pillow and continental quilt. There are two bunk bed which are 2ft 61n by 6ft. Ph toilet the variety club of great britain room

The toilet and shower on the ground floor are available for wheelchair users. There is an oxford hoist and a shower chair stored for use in this toilet.

Toilet & Shower Area - First Floor :

On the first floor there are four purpose-built showers which operate from the hot and cold water system. The gas boiler heating this water is very large and there is, therefore, a rapid recovery even if thirty people were to take showers continuously. Please ensure that the shower curtains are kept within the shower basins and that the green flooring is kept reasonably dry. A mop and bucket are kept in this area for this purpose.

There are four toilets and four wash basins adjacent to the showers on the first floor. One of these is fitted with a sanitary towel disposer (a southalls self-seal unit - special black polythene bags for use in this kept--in office) and is therefore reserved at all times for female use. The other toilets can be used for either male or female use depending on the group leader's decision.

Dining Room :

At present a variety of chairs and six go-pak folding tables are kept here but for large parties two tables need to be taken into the lounge. There is a large commercial hot-plate sited and available for use in the dining room.

When the tables are folded away (treat with care as these costs £60 each! ;-) the room can be used for games, social activities. There is a 2 x 1 metre whiteboard fixed to one of the walls in this room. Please bring your own pens.

Kitchen :

The equipment in the kitchen includes.....

  • a large falcon gas cooker with large oven and six boiling burners

  • a standard domestic electric cooker

  • a microwave

  • a fridge freezer

  • two electric kettles

  • two electric toasters

  • an earthenware bucket sink

  • a standard household stainless steel sink

  • a large industrial size deep sink

  • a stainless steel hand basin

  • plenty of plates, dishes, pans, knives, forks and spoons (but not many teaspoons!) for your use.

  • Two large swing top waste disposal bins (Please provide your own plastic bags ;-)

Lounge :

The lounge has armchair seating for eight people, other chairs, a 26 inch television set and video recorder. A feature of the lounge is that an open fire has been left. Please bring or buy your own fuel and clean the ashes away as necessary and certainly at the end of your visit.

Warden's Office :

The contact breakers for the electrical system are sited in this area. It is a sensitive system and a fused bulb has been known to activate the contact breakers, so have a quick look here before evening comes.

This area also includes a payphone (01766 514141) four vacuum cleaners are available, one stored in this area, and one on the upstairs landing. Please empty these at the end of your visit.

There is an ebac humidex dehumidifier available for use in bedrooms. These switch off automatically, but care must be taken to put the container in the correct way. These dehumidifiers cost almost £200 each, so again we ask for care in moving and using them. An fm wireless monitor, useful for ph calls in the night is kept in this office. You will see that keys to all areas are stored here. Please ensure that they are lefti the keys to the windows are of several types since some of the locks have been replaced. Please leave the window locks undone at the end of your visit.

Outside The Building Facilities :

There is a covered verandah with a large sink suitable for boot washing.

Boiler & Drying Room :

Suitable for drying boots slowly

Garage :


This contains an industrial size maytag washing machine and tumble drier. These should only be used under the supervision of the leaders. A soiled duvet can be washed and dried within two hours regardless of the weather.

There are 36 sets of henri lloyd kagoules and leggings.

There are 30 small ruc-sacs suitable for carrying lunch.

Residence Arrangements :

There must be a nominated leader for each party who is prepared to take responsibility for the behaviour of the group. Where mixed parties are in residence there must be both male and female leaders.

No animals are allowed on the premises.

Residents are expected to keep the centre clean and tidy during their stay, and to clean the premises thoroughly before departure.

Waste is collected on Thursday mornings and should be placed in plastic bags at the front of the house on Wednesday evening. All damage should be reported to the warden before departure and an extra charge may be made.


All Parties Must Provide :

  • Pillow cases, sheets and duvet covers (or a simple sheet).

  • Soaps and towels.

  • Cloths, tea towels and other cleaning materials.

  • First aid equipment.

  • Toilet rolls (we keep an emergency supply)

Local Facilities

There is a kwik-save store immediately opposite to gelliwig and the main shops of Porthmadog are only 200 metres away. A spar shop in the town centre is open on Sundays and a co-op store situated near to the cob is open at 8.00 a.m. Daily. A Tesco store on the Tremadog road opposite the local cinema has joined the competition for the niche market of gelliwig shoppers!
